Coming Soon!

Hey everybody, here's hoping you all had a great holiday, if you celebrate that! Just wanted to let anyone interested know to look out for dates in the new year for a Clean Up Party at Rocky Butte. As of yet I haven't settled on a date but it will be around the 10th or so! Any support would be most appreciated and plan on going out for pizza when we finish. Any ideas regarding any of this here stuff, direct to garagedoorclimbing@gmail.com
Happy New Years!

another Stoneworks video

THOSE BRAINY LOOKING HOLDS BLOW. Big Town likes them. I have no idea why. It's like trying to hold onto...something...really big. (Also I have five year old boy hands). But ANYWAY--props to BT for creating this video. We just made a trip to the Circuit with our good friend Lindsay (who is an amazing climber) so we will hopefully have a fun, action-packed, nail-biting gem of a video. Starring Bruce Willis and Cameron Diaz. (That might be a joke.)
Keep checking in on us, and don't be afraid to say hi! Most of us don't bite.
Happy holidays,
-Lil Bug and Big Town

p.s.-to the random guy in the video--if you see this, please a) tell us your name so we can credit you and b)don't sue us and c) come climb on our homegym!

Stoneworks joust video

Sadly, there was no actual "jousting"... the gym was set up with a series of problems that were numbered (however, not rated). Once you completed a problem you would have someone sign it off, and then you could participate in a drawing for prizes.
Anyway, Big Town put together this video of some of the participants working on a particular problem. The cave-like structure of the gym created a really interesting and awesome atmosphere, as well as lending itself to some really great problems.
If you live in the Portland/Beaverton area, you should check it out!

Just a heads up!
Conditions on I-84 are icy dicey!
ODOT advises carrying chains as road is spotted with ice and some snow.
So be careful out there especially if your heading out to the Gorge!

community aspect #2

Ok, so aside from hangin out, climbing, and just generally being all around awesome, we also want to organize some community outreach events, esp. with landowners, such as Carver Climbing Club. For these events we would be volunteering to go out to favorite climbing spots to pick up trash! So I'll keep you guys posted on dates for these events. It's important for us as the climbing community to have good relations with land owners and the land we use for recreation, this means fostering an awareness of and caring for our natural playgrounds.

Climbing Video!

Video of the present Home Circuit: Garage Door Climbing. (note that we are, indeed, in our garage). Everyone in the video is a resident of the house. We are all pretty awesome, so not ONLY do we have a kick-ass climbing wall, but you get to hang out with super fun kids.

If you have any questions, or just want to say hi, hit us up at

Garage Door Climbing

This is a call to all climbers of all different skill sets!
If you live in, around, or are visiting the Portland (PDX) area, love climbing but don't always have the income or time for our local gyms, we have a spot for you! Garage Door Climbing is a budding community of climbers from all sorts of backgrounds committed to the sport and always eager to climb. We have started by building a garage gym in NE Portland with circuits and a top-out. We are looking for anyone interested in climbing home circuits, contributing holds, or opening the doors of their own home gym setup. This is intended to foster a sense of community that transcends climbing club memberships. Our intention is to build a community by hosting skill builders and at home "comps" open to all skills, in the style of Backyard BBQ's. For those days that you need to gain some distance from the ground we are open to going out in groups to climb some real rock, or even making a trip to one of our many local gyms for some top rope or lead.

I'll post a contact email in the next entry, so in the meantime post away!
