Rocky Butte Cleanup - Photos

Hey folks,

Here are some pictures from the first Rocky Butte cleanup, hosted by Garage Door Climbing. Thanks again to all the folks that came out! We unfortunately don't have any pictures of the PDX Climbing Meetup group folks that came out to help, but we sure are glad they made it out. If any of you guys have some pics we could post, send 'em on over.

Look at all that trash; pretty gross!
The crew (from left to right): Jason, Mikey, Knox (the four-legged fellow), Lindsey, Big-town and Peter

Close-up of all the garbage, and uh, don't show these to Mikey and Peter's boss, that's their work truck.

The cleanup was a great success, and we hope to have many more in the future. We'll keep y'all posted on future cleanup dates and other Garage Door Climbing events.

Rocky Butte Success

A Big Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for our clean up session at Rocky Butte! We had bomber weather, support from friends and the PDX Climbing Meetup Group. People from the community were thanking us as they saw us out there traipsing through invasive species to emerge with uncountable 40oz bottles! We caught the attention of NW Search and Rescue, so yay we're on their Radar now for when they organize their cleanup day. Mike and I have set up profiles on Cascade Climbers Forum so if any of you are followers their we will be using it to post upcoming events! Again THANK YOU all for making yesterday a success and a great Birthday morning for me!

Rocky Butte plan

Ok so on the 23rd (this Saturday) 9:00 am We will be meeting at the Rocky Butte parking area near the lookout. Bring leather gloves for sure and you may want a latex or vinyl pair to wear underneath. I do not want anyone picking up items like condoms, needles, tampons, etc. Be very careful with the broken glass as well(this is why I recommend leather gloves for your outer layer), there is a lot of glass on Rocky Butte, most of it broken!
If it is raining all bets are off, not because we wouldn't face the rain and still try to clean up, but it's already muddy out there and some of the terrain is just to risky for un-roped crews.

if you have any questions mail goff.granville@gmail.com

Thanks for the support!

Rocky Butte postponed

Ok, so Rocky Butte clean up is postponed until Jan 23, that is not this coming Saturday but one the following. I am still trying to get all the info I need from OSHA to ensure our safety out there!

So tonight was like social night at PRG! Garage Door Climbing was out in full force! Lil Bug, Mike-E,(me) Big Town, and some friends including Sam my first lead belay and conversely belayer of my first lead climb! I saw nearly every person I know through climbing, including some old faces that have been sorely missed! What up to Keri,Aaron, Petra, and Nancy! The word about Garage Door Climbing is getting out there and all of yous guys are the reason we do this! This week we also had a guest on the garage wall, Big thanks to Josh G. for the props on Facebook and for playing around on the home circuit.

Again Rocky Butte clean up Jan 23 (my b-day woot!) 9-9:30am start Park and meet at the Lookout! Do not park on the Bible College property.

Rocky Butte clean-up Project

Mike and I are working out a date for our Rocky Butte clean-up. We are tentatively planning on Saturday Jan 16th, however I have questions regarding hazardous materials removal that I am waiting on responses to from OSHA(Occupational Safety & Health Administration) and WMI(Wilderness Medicine Institute).
Some of these questions involve my qualifications to remove such materials as a Wilderness First Responder.
Provided I am qualified to do so, every participant will need to see me (Granville aka Big Town), specifically, at Rocky Butte for a debriefing before helping out. We are planning on starting in the morning around 9-9:30a and will have coffee, tea, and light snacks for all volunteers!
Yay refreshments!
As a group we can make a distinct impact on the amount of litter at this public playground and improve the general safety of those who recreate there.
Thanks to all those who have expressed interest in this project, which is only the first of many!
I will post again with the definitive date which may be the following Saturday/Sunday.
Direct any questions to garagedoorclimbing@gmail.com or goff.granville@gmail.com

Thanks Again,
